Bill watches the
election results with complete shock. Sadness consumes him as he realizes
the way the balance scale is tipping—not in his favor. George calls Bill. As
Bill answers, he hears laughter and immediately becomes angry. Bill thinks to
himself, how can anyone be laughing at a
time like this? George temporarily halts his laughter and says, “Who
would have thought neither your wife nor my son would win this thing? I vote we
stop paying our dues to the Presidents Club if this guy is joining the group.”
Bill drops his head and sniggers as he realizes who has called. Both men sit in
silence as they realize the institution which they revere now rests in the
hands of someone neither can tolerate. Laughter is their only escape.
